The Walten Files 5 can be presented as a psychological horror game in which the player investigates the disappearance of the Walten family. The story begins when an old television inside an abandoned house starts playing a damaged recording from Bon’s Burgers. The tape contains employee instructions, family footage, and brief images of animatronics standing in places where they should not be. By exploring the house and restoring the recording, the player gradually discovers what happened to Rosemary, Jack, Edd, and Molly.

Following the Recorded Clues

The house serves as the central location, but its rooms change whenever a new section of the tape is played. A bedroom may connect to a restaurant corridor, while a storage room can transform into an animatronic workshop. The player must compare these altered locations and search for objects that appear in both the real world and the recordings.

The main investigation includes several types of tasks:

  • Collecting VHS fragments and audio tapes
  • Examining photographs for hidden details
  • Repairing damaged sections of recordings
  • Unlocking rooms with codes found in documents
  • Comparing different versions of the same memory
  • Avoiding Bon and other animatronic figures
  • Reconstructing the order of past events

Some evidence is optional, but finding it reveals additional information and can affect the ending.

Animatronics Inside the House

The player has no weapons and cannot destroy the animatronics. Each enemy follows its own rules. Bon moves through dark corridors and reacts to footsteps, while Sha appears near objects connected to Rosemary. Other figures may remain motionless until the player turns away or switches off the television.

Survival depends on hiding, controlling noise, and watching for changes in the environment. Doors can be locked temporarily, but the player must first locate the correct keys. Turning off a television may stop an animatronic from entering a room, although it also prevents access to the current recording.

Rebuilding the Final Memory

The campaign is divided into chapters based on different members of the Walten family. Completing a chapter requires collecting enough evidence to restore an important memory. The player chooses which fragments belong together, but incorrect choices create altered scenes and open different routes.
