Songs of Conquest is a turn-based strategy game where the player builds a faction, explores unknown territory, and controls armies in tactical battles. The main actions take place on large maps with towns, roads, resources, enemy groups, treasures, and special locations. The player does not move a single army only. Instead, they manage Wielders, develop settlements, recruit units, and decide how quickly to expand.
The game has a story mode divided into four campaigns. Each one focuses on a different faction and shows the conflict from another side. Arleon is based on knights, nobles, and feudal power. Rana includes old tribes and creatures from marshlands. Barya is connected with trade, invention, firearms, and mercenary forces. Loth uses necromancy, cults, and undead troops. The story is presented through missions, short dialogues, map events, and songs that change as the campaign continues.
During each scenario, the player sends Wielders across the map to collect resources, capture mines, visit buildings, and find artifacts. Towns can be improved with new structures, which unlock units, upgrades, research, and better income. Some paths are guarded by neutral armies, so the player has to decide when to fight and when to wait. The map is not only a background for battles; it is where most strategic decisions happen.
The game includes different ways to play:
When armies meet, the game switches to a grid-based battlefield. Units act in turns, move across tiles, attack enemies, and use special abilities. Army composition is important because different troops provide different essence, which is used for spells. This connects recruitment with magic: choosing more of one unit type may give access to certain spells, while another army setup may support a different tactic. Wielders also gain skills, which can change how battles and map movement work.
Songs of Conquest is not built around linear levels in the usual sense. Instead, it uses campaign scenarios, skirmish maps, and player-made maps. Each scenario has its own layout, objectives, enemies, and resource situation. The built-in editor lets players create maps with events, dialogue, music, and custom goals. Because of this, the game can be played through its campaigns or used as a platform for new scenarios made by the community.
