Lucid Cats is a first-person horror extraction game where the objective is to enter a dream, gather valuables, and leave before the run ends badly. Players need to reach the required quota, but collecting enough items is only half of the task. The valuables are not truly secured until the group finds the exit and escapes.
Finding Value in an Unfamiliar Dream
The environment changes between runs, so exploration cannot be reduced to repeating one memorized route. Rooms, passages, useful objects, and dangerous encounters may appear in different places. Players have to search the current version of the dream, identify useful routes, and keep track of where important areas are located. Lucid Cats supports solo play and cooperative sessions for up to four players. A group can stay close together and reduce the risk of being isolated, or divide into smaller teams to search more territory. Proximity voice chat makes this decision important because communication becomes limited when teammates move too far apart.
A run usually involves:

The game does not use a traditional sequence of numbered levels. Each dream functions as a self-contained level that changes when a new attempt begins. Players can use tools available through the Laptop to gather information and make searches more efficient, but these systems do not remove the need to explore directly. The structure is based on learning how the game behaves rather than memorizing one fixed map.
Deciding When the Run Is Finished
The most important choice often appears after the quota has already been reached. Leaving at that point protects the current haul, while continuing the search creates a chance to collect more valuable items. At the same time, every extra minute in the dream increases the possibility of meeting a creature or becoming separated from the team. Lucid Cats therefore rewards players who can judge risk correctly, keep track of their surroundings, and recognize when further exploration is no longer worth the danger.
