Every expedition in Funnel Runners begins with limited time, missing vehicle parts, and a storm that continuously grows stronger. Players explore a destructible suburban area from a first-person perspective while searching for the equipment needed to restore a van. The mission can be attempted alone or with a team of up to eight participants, but every player faces the same objective: repair the vehicle and escape.

A Field Assignment

The story presents the group as employees of APEX Storm Monitoring Services sent to observe a high-priority F5 tornado. After arriving, they discover that their transport cannot leave without several repairs. The narrative remains focused on this emergency rather than developing through separate chapters or character scenes. Players collect weather information while the approaching tornado turns the assignment into a survival operation.

Supplies and Repairs

The main gameplay loop combines exploration, resource collection, time management, and cooperation. Houses contain vehicle components, fuel, tools, medical supplies, and gadgets, but their locations change between attempts. As the storm intensifies, buildings collapse and uncollected objects inside them can disappear. A complete mission usually requires players to:

  •         check the van and identify missing components;
  •         search nearby buildings for parts and supplies;
  •         carry important items back to the vehicle;
  •         use gadgets to support exploration or survival;
  •         restore health and stamina when necessary;
  •         finish repairs and leave before the tornado arrives.

Changing Maps and Hazards

The game uses randomized runs rather than a sequence of traditional levels. Its suburban environment can appear in three map variations, and each attempt changes the item placement, weather, vehicle faults, and available solutions. Fifteen possible weather variations affect the conditions around the city. Because destruction continues during the mission, routes that were safe at the beginning may later become blocked or completely removed.

Effective play depends on completing important searches before the storm reaches the nearest streets. Start by examining the van so the team knows which six repair parts must be found. In multiplayer sessions, assign separate areas to different players and communicate when fuel, tools, or components are located. Avoid spending too long in one house, especially when wind and debris begin affecting it. Return valuable items to the van instead of carrying several supplies through dangerous areas. After the repairs are complete, regroup quickly and confirm that everyone is ready before beginning the final escape.
