FC 27 is a football simulation that combines traditional 11v11 matches with career management, squad building, online competition, and a new shared football space called The Grounds. There is no single story connecting every mode. Instead, each mode has its own progression, from developing one Virtual Pro to managing an entire club over multiple seasons. The game includes more than 19,000 licensed players, hundreds of clubs and national teams, and dozens of leagues.
The Grounds works as a social hub for up to 100 players and contains three districts inspired by football culture in the United Kingdom, France, and Argentina. Players create a Virtual Pro, choose an archetype for attack, midfield, defense, or goalkeeper, and improve that player through different activities. These include 1v1 matches, 2v2 and 3v3 games, Rush, Kickabouts, Stadium Drop-Ins, and full Clubs competition. Mentors such as Alex Hunter, Kylian Mbappé, Chloe Kelly, and Paulo Dybala introduce different parts of the mode.
The main ways to play include:
Manager Career introduces a rebuilt transfer market where several clubs can compete for the same player. Transfer values are affected by factors such as form, morale, and fitness through Dynamic OVR, while negotiations can include performance clauses and buy-back options. Manager Live also provides curated and community-created scenarios, giving players objectives beyond simply completing regular league seasons.
Football Ultimate Team still revolves around assembling squads from Player Items, but FC 27 adds the FUT Gallery. Players can organize past and present items into sets, increase Gallery Level, earn rewards, collect Holographic variants, and complete Single Player Live Events alongside competitive modes.
FC 27 does not use conventional numbered levels across the whole game. Progress depends on the selected mode: a Virtual Pro gains abilities in The Grounds, Career advances through seasons and player development, while Ultimate Team focuses on squad improvement and collection. On the pitch, the game also introduces revised attacking awareness, dynamic corners, more player-controlled defending, and other changes intended to give users greater direct control over matches.
